They’re taking Lara in for her gastrojejunostomy. In layman’s terms that just means they’re going to bypass her duodenum (the first step in your small intestine after the stomach) by marrying up the stomach to the jejunum (the second step in your small intestine).
In the first sketch, you can see how an esophagus, stomach, and duodenum usually look. The black mass is Masshole. Screw that guy. The second sketch is sort of hard to understand and explain without a pointer of some sort. Just think of it as Masshole has created a traffic jam so the doctor is going to route a detour so she can get some nutrition.
Coincidentally, Nurse Alicia (who gave Lara her pink slippers) is wearing purple scrubs today. She’ll be in the room for the procedure. She was kind and gentle enough to help alleviate Lara’s thirst before going in.
Inky and I are just hanging out in the waiting room together while I get some work done. He tells me he may go to the Women and Children Pavillion to make some balloon animals for the newly anointed big brothers and big sisters. Again. What a guy!
This procedure could take up to 90 minutes and the surgery team is on standby in case anything goes wrong.
I’ll update when she’s out of recovery and I’ve talked to the doctor.
