Lara at our California ceremony.
Lara Meiojas 1976 — 2022

Lara passed peacefully in the night here at her family’s ranch, just how she wanted to. She wasn’t in pain or in fear. She wasn’t alone. I was in bed beside her all night holding her hand, rubbing her leg, offering soft kisses, and reminding her of how loved she is by so many. I reminded her that I love her. At our friends’ direction, I assured her that I have a strong support network and that I’d be safe and protected. I told her that she could go as soon as she was ready.

I know lots of you want to offer condolences and ask whether you can do anything for me/us. You can. Remember Lara’s radiance. Reflect that light back out into the world as often as you can. Spread that shit like wildfire. In this way, Lara will gain immortality. Additionally, if you feel compelled to buy flowers, she would ask that you instead spend that money on self-care. Go to yoga. Get a massage. Rent a motorcycle. Take yourself to dinner or a movie. Do something for yourself. Thank you for loving her.

I love you, Lara. Your suffering has ended. The rest of us…we have some catching up to do.

We’re the ones who have to shine
