Justin Renshaw’s “Invisible Man”

Patrick Higgy [dot] com is my website for housing original writing. I have written for other websites before and don’t duplicate that content here (with the exception of possibly expounding upon things I’ve posted to Facebook previously), though there are links to those external websites peppered throughout this site. Why did I choose my URL? For two reasons: 1) during my time in the Army, friends called me “Higgy” because it’s half as many syllables as my last name; and 2) because Higgy is much easier to spell, repeat, and recall than Higingbotham.

I became a widower when I lost my wife on December 14, 2022. One of her dying wishes was that I make her death mean something. Another was that I understand my worth and my value. By starting this site, I am making good on some promises. She believed I was a writer and too many of my friends and colleagues have shared the same thoughts for me to ignore the call any longer. As I’ve already mentioned, I’ve written here and there, sometimes without attribution, but it’s mostly been for some goal other than advancing my skills, entertaining, and/or conveying my deepest thoughts.

Aside from the emojis and descriptors at the top of this page, I’ll summarize who I am. I’m a single father with joint custody of my three children. I am trying my best to raise empathetic sons in a culture where soft skills are often denigrated. I also love exploring. It doesn’t matter if it’s travel, books/film, or soul-searching. If it involves a journey of any kind, I’m for it.

My education is not in writing or even in the fine arts. I went to college for business and that’s what pays the bills for me and my family. However, writing is a passion and I crave that creative outlet as much as I do running forest trails.

Thank you for indulging me!
